Art 1 Syllabus

Course Description

Art 1 emphasizes the study of the basic fundamentals of the visual arts.  Students are introduced to the elements of art and the principles of design.  Art history is also introduced, as well as the study of some of the major artists.  The goal of the course is to provide students with information and assignments that will help them learn how to produce successful works of art and gain an appreciation of the visual arts.

 

During the semester students should expect:

  • Daily class assignments
  • Unit quizzes
  • Final exam (depending on absences and final grade)*

*May have 3 absences with an A average; may have 2 absences with a B average; may have 1 absence with a C average

 

Supplies

  • Students will need a small notebook or pocket folder to keep handouts and notes in; you should have this in class at all times

 

Grading

Generally, students are graded on the following criteria:

  1. Following directions
  2. Neatness and effort
  3. Proper use of art materials

 

Class work                              70%

Quizzes                                   10%                                                                                        

Attendance/Participation         20%

 

Classroom Rules and Expectations

  1. Come to class prepared and ready to learn
  2. Respect yourself, your teachers and classmates, as well as your surroundings
  3. NO cell phones
  4. NO food or drinks

 

Attendance Policy

After any absence, students must ask for make-up assignments.  Students will have 3 days after they return to hand in a missed assignment.  Excessive absences and tardies, as well as checkouts, will be dealt with through grade reductions.  


Art 2 Syllabus

 Course Description

Art 2 further extends and refines the use of the 7 Elements of Art, as well as the Principles of Design, in the creation of artwork. Emphasis will be placed on the development of an awareness of influential artists, past and present. The goal of the course is to encourage original works of art from each student using several different media.

 

During the semester students should expect:

  • Daily class assignments
  • Unit quizzes
  • Written reports
  • Final exam (depending on absences and final grade)

 Supplies

  • Students are required to purchase a sketchbook.  All other supplies will be provided.
  • Students need a pocket folder to keep notes and handouts in.

 Grading

Generally, student artwork is graded on the following criteria:

  1. Following directions of the assignment
  2. Neatness and effort
  3. Time involved
  4. Proper use of art materials

 Classwork       80%

Participation    10%

Quizzes           10%

 Classroom Rules

  1. Come to class prepared and ready to learn/work.
  2. Respect yourself, your teacher and classmates, and your surroundings.
  3. Keep cell phones out of sight.
  4. Restroom breaks are to be taken only if necessary and one at a time.  You must sign out and take a pass.

Course Description

Art 3 continues use of the 7 Elements of Art and the Principles of Design in the creation of original works of art.  Emphasis will be placed on the history of art and how it can be applied to the student’s personal compositions.  The goal of the course is to extend knowledge and creativity based on previous studies.  During the semester students should expect:

  • Daily class assignments
  • Unit quizzes
  • Written reports
  • Final exam (depending on absences and final grade)*

*May have 3 absences with an A average; 2 absences with a B average; 1 absence with a C average

Supplies

  • Students need a folder to keep notes and handouts in
  • Students may also bring a personal sketchbook

Grading

Student artwork is generally graded on the following criteria:

  1. Following directions of the assignment
  2. Neatness, effort, time involved
  3. Proper use of art materials
  4. Creativity

No phones; no headphones

Restroom breaks are to be taken only if necessary and ONE at a time.  Sign out and take pass

Work is to be turned in within a reasonable time of the due date.
